Influenza flu is very common during the time of seasonal flu and brings a situation whereby one suffers from fever, chills, muscle pain, body aches, fatigue or headache. Some of the symptoms that remain unnoticed during the initial period may include dry cough, running nose and sore throat.

The problem is that the symptoms of influenza flu are very much similar to common cold but could leave drastic effects upon the health of the person. There are several medications to be taken for the treatment of influenza.

Although the symptoms of the flu usually go away on their own in 7 to 10 days, in certain cases a doctor may be required immediately. A temperature of 100.4 or higher in a child three months or younger requires a doctor’s attention. A rectal temperature of 105 or higher in a child younger than four years requires immediate medical attention. An oral temperature of 104 or higher in anyone four years and older should be reported to a doctor. If breathing difficulties accompany flu symptoms then a doctor should be consulted. If stiff neck, confusion or difficulty wakening accompany symptoms of the flu, then a doctor should be consulted.

The best way to cure influenza is to go for hot footbaths, and gargle if one suffers from sore throat. Many people take a teaspoonful of raw and unadulterated mustard oil to get back the normal voice. If one experiences mild fever, one can simply take the precaution of not bathing in cold water. Keep the body and the feet warm. Using cold ointments on the backside of the body, armpits, feet and on the chest besides around the nostrils also provide relief by means of the strong evaporation of those ointments.
