CCIE is considered to be the most comprehensive and well-respected certification in networking and you are recognized as the doctorate in the field of networking once you successfully complete it. Only 3% of Cisco certified professionals pass CCIEs and you would require hands-on experience for that.

There are many organizations that conduct CCIE bootcamps for making the participants ready for the exam. Many of them set a prerequisite to be qualified for the bootcamp. For example, they may look for your CCNP status before registering for the bootcamp. They insist this because it increases the chance of the participants to clear CCIE much better than others.

You will find many institutes that suggest must-have books and offer access to the equipment during weekends and extended hours during the week so that you can maximize your hands on training.

You can also carry on with experimenting with different solutions and physical patch fields and switches. You would also be able to work on the routers and experiment with different topologies and will be supported with back up classes if you lag behind.

Most of the bootcamps have high speed internet access in their training rooms and individualized attentions are paid to the students with one-on-one interactive sessions. All the student would work with several routers that are unshared in most of the cases.

Lab simulation

In the final stages of the bootcamp the students are challenged with exclusive troubleshooting task, blueprintv4, MPLS, etc. And they will face terminal-based server exactly replicating the simulated exam situation.

This test starts with simple ones and gradually moves toward more complex situations and they are just like the ones you may face in actual lab tests.

Class structure in CCIE bootcamps

Most of the institutes emphasize on hands on training instead of conventional lecture-based classes. The day time is divided into sessions. The day starts with lectures sessions where every students are monitored and depending on their individual progress extra hand-holding sessions are designed.

Lecturers in CCIE bootcamp ensure that concepts like ospf area bit splitting, bit splitting, VLSM, etc. Even these lecture sessions are made interactive with placing real-life problems to ascertain if the students can quickly find out the fault and can think of the possible solutions. Knowledge gaps are addressed in one-on-one sessions.

After the lecture sessions are over the students move to mock labs and here they are asked to do jobs like installing VNC when their keystrokes are checked as it would in the actual exam.

Above all constant feedbacks are given to the students so that they prepare themselves for the actual tests.

For full details on CISCO and courses offered by other institutes on the topic of CISCO, you can search through Google or even better, check CISCO site itself, they have great resources available for beginners.

The salaries are of course high in the Cisco field but the job is demanding as well, from my personal experience at times it can be very daunting to setup a network.
